Luke

Whenever I'm watching a movie and a character is called Luke, I immediately lose interest and want to stop watching.

I can't explain this rationally

There's just something about the name Luke that feels completely contrived in a dramatic context.

It's like the name carries this artificial quality that makes everything feel scripted and fake.

Luke sounds like a placeholder name that screenwriters use in first drafts and then forget to replace with something that feels like a real person.

Maybe it's the sound of it—too short, too blunt, too generic.

Or maybe it's become so overused in movies that it's lost any authentic human quality.

When I hear "Luke," I don't picture a character with depth and complexity; I picture a guy whose main personality trait is being named Luke.

This makes absolutely no sense.

I get the feeling that a Luke is too self aware, of his own self.

It's completely irrational, but there it is. Luke ruins movies for me, and I have no logical explanation for why.
